FAQ

Can gallstones go away on their own?

Stones usually do not dissolve spontaneously. Symptoms may settle between attacks, but stones remain and can cause recurrence.

Do I need a special diet forever?

Most people return to a normal diet. Some find very fatty meals cause loose stools early on; this often improves over time.

What is “biliary sludge”?

Sludge is thickened bile and microscopic particles that can behave like stones and cause symptoms.

Will I get pancreatitis again?

If gallstones caused pancreatitis, removing the gallbladder reduces recurrence risk substantially. Bile duct stones may still occasionally occur and require evaluation.

Can gallbladder pain be atypical?

Yes. Some people have central upper abdominal pain, reflux-like symptoms, or pain that mimics pancreatitis. Imaging and labs help clarify the cause.
